I've been using a lot of single words and short phrases when talking with Andrew & Gio. I've been doing my best to avoid long explanations or questions. But sometimes I wonder if I'm getting through to Gio. It takes him a while to respond to a simple question, I'm not sure if its because he doesnt understand or he's still getting use to the classroom.

I've been using 2 step directions with both Gio & Andrew. I asked Andrew " Go get your shoes and bring them to me." He needed to be reminded but was able to follow the direction. Gio on the other hand does OK with one step direction but doesnt seem to understand 2 step direction. I needed to use visual cues in order for him to complete the directions.

Andrew has great Receptive Language! I can ask him to get me anything in the classroom and he'll bring it right to me. However, Andrew has very poor expressive language. He labels very few things in the classroom and seems to have NO Spontaneous language. I asked Andrew to get me the red ball (I stressed the word BALL) He does imitate the word for me, but today for the first time he handed me the ball and said "Ball"

This morning I decided that Gio and Andrew needed some structured playtime. Using the blocks I came up with some play scenarios. I primarily focused on taking turns. Gio did not say one word during our playtime but he was able to get my attention very easily. Several times he tapped me on my shoulder letting me know he wanted a turn. Andrew had a lot of difficulty focusing and staying on task, he would scream and cry till it was his turn.

Gio started in my class last week. He came from Sharon’s infant room. Sharon has been a great asset. She had a lot of ideas that helped make the transition go smoothly. At drop off Gio still gets upset but he’s easily distracted. Gio is currently receiving early intervention.

I've decided to focus on Gio & Andrew. Both boys have similar issues, possible speech delay, & trouble staying on task. I also have some concerns about Andrew’s fine motor play.
